Power Palooza

For such a small town–population 3,000–we have some pretty cool stuff going on here in Nevada City. (Well, the numbers are a bit deceptive…the greater area is some 20-30,000.) Coming up on August 18th is the 2nd annual Power Palooza produced by local organization Power Up.

Power Up’s vision (about page) “is for Nevada City to attain energy independence in the next decade and serve as a role model for other communities.”

Reinette Senum and Kelly Casterson, the founders of the organization are, let’s just say, on fire! What I especially love about this dynamic duo is their focus on solutions–doom-sayers they are not.Their website lists several things you can do to reduce your impact on climate change.

But if you can make it to the event on Aug. 18th, there will be educational booths, activities for kids, films, speakers, and of course, BBQd veggie kabobs!

My role with Power Palooza this year is in the BBQ veggie kabobs realm. We did this last year too and it was a huge hit. Local gardeners, CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture), and markets are donating organic veggies which we will skewer and BBQ for Palooza goers. Lightly seasoned with a little olive oil, salt and pepper–delicious! One free per person, at that!

Power Up puts “think globally act locally” to action with this fun community event.
