Carpets aren’t all bad

Who’da thunk that the leader of a carpet company would become something of a hero by people passionate about sustainability? He is to Sustainablog’s Jeff McIntire-Strasburg.

In fact, I was thrilled to read (November issue of Inc Magazine, The Industrialist) about Ray Anderson’s conversion from business-as-usual “plunderer” to a man who did over 150 speaking engangements last year preaching the “gospel of sustainabiltiy”. This founder, chairman, and former CEO of textile and carpet company Interface Inc. certainly knows how to make something happen when he puts his mind to it.

I was so impressed, I included his story in my Toastmasters speech this past Tuesday. One of the aspects I find so cool about the story of Interface is the proof that the question on the table no longer is the polarized: Business OR the Environment.

We are firmly in the era of Win-Win situations.
