    Avoiding co-dependency with clients

I love this woman’s approach to consulting! Pamela Slim writes the Escape from Cubicle Nation blog (introduced here.)

This is what caught my eye in her post yesterday:
Your goal as a consultant is to work your way out of a job.

Her questions following this statement are excellent examples of real service. They focus on causes, not symptoms. Now that’s where we’ll find sustainability!

      You are too kind Shawn!

Thanks so much for the plug.

I really wanted to share that advice since I saw so many people getting into trouble as superheros. An unintended result of dependency is often that those you are “saving” end up resentful. Funny, isn’t it?

Good luck with your biz and thanks again for supporting mine!

      All the best,

      -Pam

I wish it were more funny in a ha-ha kind of way. =) Truly ironic, in any case.

I’ll bet you touched on a sensitive spot for a lot of people who really have the best of intentions but who may lose site of the bigger picture.

Just having the awareness of this dark side of the Superhero is helpful.

      Thanks for your work, Pam!
      Shawn
