Knowing when not to make decisions

Which brings me to the reminder of structure. In the last post I was thinking about the sweet spot in which there is just enough structure so that you know the parameters and intention of a situation but aren’t constrained uncomfortably by it.

Structure and spontaneity. They go hand in hand.

I admit, decisions can be stressful to make. What if I make the wrong decision? What if I don’t have enough information to make the best decision? What will I miss by deciding on this one? Aye yai yai!

One of the attributes of a good leader is swift and informed decision-making skills. Which, I’ll add, includes knowing when it’s right to not decide something. Bad mindset leads to bad decisions.

Wallowing around in a confused state is a perfect example of lack of structure and a super perfect example of when NOT to make important decisions. (Not to mention it feels crappy.)

    Turning it around…

One of the things I love about writing is that it serves as a type of therapy. As if the contents of my head are a jumbled up mess, going no where except circling around. And then what writing does is grab one of those swirling thoughts and starts pulling it out of the mess. Now instead of circling and twisting, there is some direction. And with that huge relief. Phew!

This post was originally twice as long. As the writing process slowly began to disintegrate the mess, it was clear that you could be spared many of the gory details that began the unwinding… which leads us to right here, right now. Considerably calmer, and knowing what the next thing to do is. Yay!
