This could be an annual check-in seeing as “simplification for me is…” Part 1 was written a little over a year ago.
I’m sitting down to think about this right now because I just returned home (safe and sound!) from driving around town. What’s the big deal? HOLIDAY TRAFFIC, of course. Yes, ’tis the season of predatory circling of asphalt parking lots. I’m pretty sure about half the drivers out there navigating the streets were checking their shopping lists stored on their PDAs while driving. Common response to this annual situation: anger.
Is all this holiday craziness necessary? Many minds more enraged than mine have blasted this consumptive orgy. So then I’ll ask, “is the anger necessary?”
Simplification for me is… expending energy wisely. This is a rather dry and analytical way of saying, if it doesn’t do me and the world Good, Refrain. And “what is Good?” you may rightly ask. hmmm, so many dry “Good is this” and “Good is that” thoughts from a gazillion angles try to find their way to the keyboard. Chuck them all! I’m going to explore an entirely different approach.
Ahhh, that feels better. I found that home in my heart of hearts that we call “One with Everything,” the space of eternal “Yes!” the place of infinite renewal. Ahhh, rewarded with a smile, a deep breath, and a sense of calm. Good is anything that encourages this place to expand.
So many angry drivers, so many cranky people, so many things to do–no wonder I have a tough time staying in this space. No wonder I forget. Simplification for me is working with the awareness of what steers me back to the space of Yes! and what propels me away. Then choosing yes, Yes and YES!
