Waking up before the birds

I started writing this at 3:53am. It’s quiet now. Distractions are minimal. My brain is “on”.

A lot of people get up early. I mean really early. Our newsletter (issue #8) referenced an article (section #5 — In the News & On the Web) about people who are getting up around 4am to take time for themselves. how is this palatable? Got to bed early.

Amusingly, I had decided to start getting up “early” and set my alarm for 5:30am. Before I saw the time, I thought I had woken up pre-alarm to avoid the jolt of being startled out of sleep by loud, jarring noise. But a full 90 minutes early? I think not.

Some say the pre-dawn time is the hour of God, the prime time to communicate with the divine. I’m definitely feeling mentally livelier than when I wrote my daily review last night before hitting the sack at 10pm, that is for sure.

Being pleasantly wide awake right now begs the question, “How much of going to bed early vs. late is driven by the “norm” rather than what works best with my personal rhythms?”

I’ll continue to experiment. It remains to be seen whether I can regularly get to bed by 10pm!
