Already a week after the wedding
The wedding has happened. After months and months of research, planning, and decisions, the event has occurred, and my sister is now traveling exotic countries with backpack and new husband (I have a brother-in-law now?!?) No exciting stories to report about how one of the bestmen fell into the wedding cake, or how the the rings were left at the hotel. Nope, everyone was on good behavior. The only issue seems to have been that I, and my folks, didn’t get any wedding cake. (Me gads!) Truly a smoothly run affair.
Being of the intentionally simplified path for the mind, which might be called Voluntary Simplicity when it comes to stuff and lifestyle, I bit my tongue big time when my sister opened the gifts that had just arrived at her house. She saw the look on my face and forewarned, “this isn’t very environmentally friendly,” referring to the big box that had just arrived at the house with a bunch of packing materials in it and then another good-size gift box inside, within which was a bunch more packing materials, which ultimately revealed… a plate. Sigh. There you have it. One of my pet peeves: excessive and wasteful packaging. But I also know when to keep my mouth shut. =)
If I had any pictures yet of my sis, I’d put ‘em up here–she looked like she stepped out of a magazine, gorgeous!
Being the maid of honor, I got to say a few words in a toast (thank goodness for 2 years in Toastmasters is all I have to say!!). It ended with:
“Whether traveling the world, talking about your days over dinner, or sharing your hopes and dreams; may the light from your love and respect for each other shine the way.”
I love you, sis!
