Navigating the terrain of self-employment can be an overwhelming experience when you are new to business.

Example scenario: You are at the beginning stages of your business, like my dear friend Leila who is beginning her adventure as a Yoga teacher. This is her first time being self-employed. Her Yoga training program offers a “business side of Yoga” course but not for several months and she’s ready to start teaching now!

Since she lives in Minnesota and I’m in California, we talk on the phone bi-weekly at pre-scheduled times. During our calls she asks questions that have popped up since our last conversation, we check-in on “assignments” from our previous call, and I share tools and resources that may facilitate the administrative side of her journey.

She finds this approach fun and helpful because our conversation focuses on what is going on with her now [rather than receiving an avalanche of information at one time and then be left to sort through it on her own], she can ask questions [books don’t serve as a helpful sounding board], and we have fun! [someone to celebrate the small accomplishments with]
