Simplify by delegating, part I
I realized I was feeling a little guilty that posting has been a little thin lately. Yet I feel as though I’ve been writing more. Ah-ha, the newsletter! (archives here) We are now in the second month of The Weekly Simplifier and I’m still feeling the effects of “new endeavor”.
Know what I mean? When you start a new project or a new creative outlet and everything feels new? There’s the learning curve, nailing down the details, making judgement and strategy decisions… it takes a large quantity of brain cells while you find a natural rhythm. And, I’m not even doing it all myself! (Thanks, Lance!)
For just about any new endeavor, the beginning stages take more time and thought, plus they seem to yield less sophisticated results as future efforts. Quite ironic, really:
more time & effort yielding a beginners result vs. less effort yielding expert results.
Ah-ha. quick shift of gears because that little irony is a perfect argument for delegation.
There are some things, like bookkeeping, that many small business owner can do, however, most likely they won’t get much further than beginner results (along with plenty of angst) on an inconsistent schedule. It’s an important responsibility to keep current and one of the easiest to delegate.
Moral of the story: Delegating responsibilities to someone whose very business involves that skill that you don’t do so well is a fantastic partnership.
