    Zamzar to the rescue

Relatively speaking (for a Scorpio) I’m not a very vengeful person.

But I tell ya, when someone makes my life difficult, repeatedly, they are practically asking to be put on that super secret s**t list that I will not forget about any time soon.

The current entity begging to be on that list is Microsoft.

(Eyes roll, groans heard) What now? I assure you, nothing you haven’t heard before.

Now, I’m not on the cutting edge of technology. I don’t have all the latest and greatest.

I walk the line between making do with what I have (read: squeak as much life out of tech tools as possible), and not getting distracted by tech issues. In my book, tech toys are meant to serve, not be served.

What’s been in my way lately? The .docx file format (2007+) which isn’t back compatible with previous versions of Word (such as 2004 for Mac).

To the rescue… Zamzar! An online service that will quickly convert those pesky .docx files to .doc. My 22 page document this morning–no problem.

They have a free service for converting docs under 100MB and then they have additional features for monthly fee.

You know, sometimes (not always) you can just change the file extension and you’re good to go. I’m pretty sure that was my solution for the .docx issue, although I haven’t encountered that in awhile. (Who uses Word 2007???)

      Hi Zuri,

I’ve tried that trick in the past and it hasn’t worked for this format for me.

It’s been happening more frequently (the .docx) lately, at least 3 different senders in the last month.
